i am trying to decide between the firstBIKE street ($159) and the kinderbike laufrad ($99). my daughter will turn two in two weeks, and she's pretty tall (35.5" with an inseam of approx 12-13"). both bikes are lightweight, have pneumatic rubber tires, have rear brakes and great warranties. do you have a recommendation between the two? is the firstBIKE worth the extra $60?

The KinderBIKE has a stiff metal frame that does not absorb much trauma or have any flex, meaning all of it is transmitted to your child. Brake systems are important to distinguish too. FirstBIKE has a concealed drum brake that requires zero maintenance except for turning a barrel. THe Kinderbike has a V-brake with brake shoes which rub on the rim. They can be very problematic to adjust and to keep centered and to keep from rubbing.. FirstBIKE has no paint to chip, and is impervious to the elements, to rusting, to rain, snow etc. Most other painted metal bikes are vulnerable to these kinds if things.
Functionally, both bikes do exactly the same thing. One does it more safely, and will last longer, and will look better for longer, and be less traumatic to still-developing bones and joints. At FirstbikeUSA.com there is presently a promo code for 10% off any order of $200 or more. Apparently it is "Juliet", just enter it during checkout. They also have the widest selection of premium helmets.

Good luck with your buying decision. KinderBIKE and FirstBIKE are both good brands out of Europe- better to stick with these originals than to buy a cheap American knock-off.
